Morning at Home

Every school day, Nina wakes up when her alarm beeps. She washes her face and brushes her teeth at the sink. Then she gets dressed and packs her lunch box with fruit and a sandwich. Nina eats breakfast at the kitchen table with her dad. They talk about what she might learn at school that day. Before they leave, Nina feeds her goldfish and checks that her backpack has her folder. Walking to the bus stop with her dad is the last step in her busy morning routine.

A Trip to the Library

On Tuesday, Jay's class visited the town library. The librarian showed them how to use quiet voices inside. Jay picked a book about planets and another about funny poems. He used his library card to check out both books for two weeks. At the checkout desk, the librarian stamped the due date on a slip inside the cover. Jay promised to bring the books back on time so other kids could read them too. He could not wait to read about Saturn's rings on the bus ride home.
